A Very Fine J. Wood Natural Stereoscope
A Very Fine J. Wood Natural Stereoscope, English, C.1862, unsigned but by 'Wood, Huddersfield’ constructed of burr walnut with all lacquered brass fittings, standing on a square base with carved paw feet each surmounted with a fleur de lys, highly carved scrolling legs support an adjustable brass column in the centre, the main viewer incorporating a number of functions to adjust the light and focus, underneath is the focus wheel acting on an internal cassette that holds the slides, there is adjustment to light at the rear via a coloured screen and one (screen missing) to the top, at the front is a brass bar to adjust the inter-ocular separation of the eyepieces.
