A Photographic Record of Edwardian Cruises

171 photographs mounted on gilt-edged cards, gelatin-silver prints c.1900-1910, relating to cruises on RMS Atrato and a Nile steamer, includes 51 images of Egypt, 27 of Brazil, 58 of the Caribbean, 12 of Gibraltar etc., the rest family portraits, a good selection of images relating to life onboard, places visited including local inhabitants, vessels encountered etc, almost all with detailed captions in ink verso, images 6.3 x 10.6, cards 10.1cm x 12.6cm.

Note: RMS (Royal Mail Ship) Atrato was a UK steamship that was built in 1888 as a Royal Mail Ship and ocean liner for the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company. In 1912 she was sold and became the cruise ship The Viking. Toward the end of 1914 she was requisitioned and converted into the armed merchant cruiser HMS Viknor. She sank in 1915 with all hands, a total of 295 Royal Navy officers and men.
