French, c.1900, signed to the front of the clockwork ‘La Société Industrielle des Téléphones, Paris’, mahogany plinth supporting the heavy clockwork mechanism, with pair of electromagnetic coils connected to sprung inker, with six spoked tape real on single brass pillar, on turned feet, the base 37cm wide

Footnote: La Société Industrielle des Téléphones (SIT) was created in December 1893 following the merger of the Menier cable and rubber factories and Société Générale des Téléphones.
