An Early 1/8th In Objective By Andrew Ross

English, c.1838, the can engraved '1/8In Andw Rofs & Co Opticians 33 Regent Street Piccadilly' this historically important objective was the first available with a correction collar.

Footnote: this design of objective is illustrated and described in the eighth edition of Carpenter (1901) pp 357-8:

'The tube carrying the front lens slides on an inner tube; it can be clamped in any position by the screws at the sides; the line in the small hole in the front indicates its position and is the prototype of the 'covered' and 'uncovered' lines of later times. The larger cylinder at the base is the lid of its box upon which it is standing.'
